For "starters" - the invisible head of the Church "Jesus Christ", the Son of God; the visible head of the Church is the Pope, the successor St.Peter.
The Pope cannot ERR whenever he uses his power as head of the Church to instruct all the faithful by defining a doctrine concerning faith or moral -call Infallibility of the Pope.
Why cannot the Pope err? Because Jesus Christ himself has promised this, and besides, God the Holy Spirit constantly and continually protects and assist him.
Of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity(He is truly God, one in nature and one in substance with the Father and the Son). The descent was visible ten days after Jesus" Ascension, with sound of a great wind and in the form of tongues of fire, as promised by our Lord. The crowd were amazed to hear them speak in different foreign languages and with such authority, especially so since they were simply men. Thus the Holy Spirit is the soul of the Catholic Church. He unites Himself intimately with her; He gives her life and leads her along the path of true doctrine and virtue so that she may never err. Thus the Pope continues the work of Jesus throughout the earth instructing and guiding the various priests and bishops.
THE 24TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR; a reflection of Msgr.Charles Pope. GOD'S Love for us is crazy! CRAZY - reflecting on the 3 parables of the 24th Sunday. All three of them are queer; describing the three doing things that most people in their right senses would not ponder doing.
But, in spiritual reflection, the one most fundamental point JESUS seems to tells us that our Heavenly Father's love for us is just plain crazy. It can never be explained in earthly or humanly terms but like Mother-we TRUST. Let us explain the three parables.
1.The parable of the Lost Sheep. Our Lord speaks of a shepherd who leaves 99 sheep to look for one that is missing(lost). Would anyone leave 99% of his assets to search for the 1%? I doubt; but the passage drips with irony.

St. Thomas, the Apostle; God placed him there for a very specific purpose. Until then all the disciples were unanimous in accepting that it was the same Jesus that broke bread with them.
But, I believe that God knows in time to come there will be "doubts"- could have been an "apparition", so He put the "doubt" to rest when Jesus invited Thomas to place his finger in the holes of His hands and his hands into His side. Ghost has no flesh and bones!! Thus Thomas, together with all of us believers, exclaimed. MY LORD AND MY GOD!!
Thus Pope Benedict XVI is the 266Th Pope; St Peter being the first(32-67). The shortest period in history for a Pope is Pope John Paul(78).
Peter becomes the head of the Apostles(Prince of Apostles) in the sequence when Jesus placed the question, "But whom do you say that I am?". Peter answered,"Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God". To that Jesus replied,"Blessed are thou Simon Bor-Jona: because flesh and blood had not revealed this to thee, but my Father who is in heaven," and added; "Thou are Peter(Kipha)a rock and upon this rock(Kipha) I will build my Church(Ekklesian), and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; and I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom",,,Mathew 16:13-20; Mark 9:27-30; Luke 9:18-21.
Lake of Genesareth, Christ renewed to Peter His special commission to feed and defend His flock, after Peter reaffirmed three times his special love for his Mater.
Vatican Councils
Pope Pius IX convoked the First Vatican Council on 29th June,1868, after a period of planning and preparation that began on 6th December,1864. This twentieth ecumenical council on the Roman Catholic Church held three centuries after the Council of Trent, opened on 8Th December 1869 and adjourned to 20th October, 1870. Unlike the five earlier General Council held in Rome, which met in the Lateran Bascilica Council and are known as the Lateran Council, this one met in the Vatican Basilica, whence it named as the First Vatican Council. It is celebrated for its definition of PAPAL INFALLIBILITY, amongst the other topic discussed namely rationalism, liberalism, materialism, inspiration of the Scriptures.
The Second Ecumenical Council o the Vatican, or Vatican II was the twenty-first Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church. Pope John XXIII opened the sessions on 11Th Oct. 1962 and it was closed under the patronage of Pope Paul VI on November 21st 1965. Included in these sessions were four future pontiff, that of Giovanni Batista Montini who succeeded Pope John XXIII taking the name of Paul VI; Bishop Albino Luciani who became Pope John Paul I; Bishop Karol Wojtyla, becoming Pope John II and Father Joseph Ratzinger, present as a theological consultant and now Pope Benedict XVI. Excepts of Vatican II will be published at a later date for those interested in their deliberations.

Vesak Day, a commemoration of major events in the life of Buddha. Vatican office urged Christian and Buddhists to work together and give witness to a way of life "that finds meaning not in having more, but in being more". Message posted, May 17Th. for 28Th May - the Catholic Church is committed to promoting the protection of the earth's natural resources "as these gifts destined for everyone", notwithstanding the commitment to encourage everyone "to protect mankind from self-destruction. One should reflect that respect "for nature springs from a deep respect for all HUMANITY"; in this WE(Christians and Buddhists should instill a sense of ecological responsibility in the world).
Traditionally, Christians and Buddhists share values such as contemplation, humility, simplicity, compassion, and generosity- these values notably "contribute to a life of non-violence, equilibrium and contentment with sufficiency.
